clarissa ximenes (São Paulo, 1989)

Curator, producer, and researcher of projects related to visual arts, Clarissa holds postgraduate degrees in Management in Contemporary Poetics: From Repertoire Expansion to Formation of Collaborative Teams from Itaú Cultural (2019/2020), in Cultural Production (CELACC/USP, 2015/2016), and a bachelor’s and teaching degree in Visual Arts from UNESP (2008/2013).

Currently, she serves as the programming curator at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, the institution’s first position dedicated to organizing and exploring new languages and uses of the museum and its public programs. Since 2023, Clarissa has been dedicated to creating interdisciplinary projects for the Pinacoteca, as well as curating courses in Art History.

In 2021, she founded BANANAL ARTE E CULTURA, a collaborative cultural space in Barra Funda, São Paulo, where she manages, directs, and curates various exhibitions and programs. Through BANANAL, she has been invited to participate in the exhibition “Abre a Rodinha, meu amor” (Ateliê 397, 2022), the course EntreOlhares Universitários (Itaú Cultural, 2022) as a guest lecturer, the LabGestão laboratory (Ateliê 397, 2021), and the Colapso Climático: Gestão do Caos laboratory (Condô Cultural, 2021).

Between 2017 and 2022, Clarissa worked as an assistant curator at the Associação Cultural Videobrasil, integrating the curatorial team of the 21st Biennial of Contemporary Art Sesc_Videobrasil | Imagined Communities (2019/2020) and the 20th Festival of Contemporary Art Sesc_Videobrasil (2017/2018). In addition to these collaborations with the institution, she organized numerous programs (exhibitions, artistic residencies, courses, among others) for the Galpão VB, the Association’s headquarters, between 2017 and 2019, in both international and national partnerships.

Throughout her thirteen years of experience in cultural production and curation, she has participated in projects such as IMAGECON – Conferência do Imaginário (2021); Research Trip by Casa do Povo for the curators of the 15th Documenta of Kassel, the ruangrupa collective from Indonesia (2021); as well as collaborations with institutions like the Associação Casa Azul / FLIP (2020 and 2021), Sesc Pompeia (2018), Vila Itororó (2017), Fundação Bienal de São Paulo (2016), Goethe-Institut (2015), and Museu Afro Brasil (2015).

In parallel, Clarissa develops her own work with the Coletivo Foi à Feira, researching and proposing actions and projects that operate at the intersections between visual arts, memory, and the city. Among the projects developed by the collective, highlights include: the artistic coordination and production of the occupation Cadê o bonde que passava aqui? (ProAC Visual Arts Award, 2018); participation in the Lugar Comum exhibition, with the installation Objeto Horizonte (MOSTRA 3M DE ARTE, Parque Ibirapuera, 2020), which traveled to three other public spaces in São Paulo; and the work Testemunho, which was part of the collective exhibition Estamos Aqui (Sesc Pinheiros, 2021).
